Snowboarding started with surfers with the idea of surfing the snow. After kids got interested in it, when it came about it grew into the fastest growing sport in the world. Ski industry profits grew rapidly, once they allowed snowboarding at their resorts. Jake Burton contributed to the sport when he started and still does with the Burton snowboarding industry. Also, Tom Sims, owner of the Sims snowboard industry, came up with a board from his shop class when he took a piece of carpet on top of a plank of wood and a sheet of aluminum on the bottom. He got the idea from skateboarding. Snowboarding hit its peek in the 1970's. Small invents would be held for snowboarder and small prizes turned into cash prizes of 25,000 or more. Then it was taken to the Olympics in 1998; were we won three medals in three events. gold, silver and bronze. Now as must people know of the Xgames and the winter Xgames. Well in the winter Xgames snowboarding is one of the biggest events everyone watches. Mostly the big air competition and the halfpipe competition. The snowboarding industry has been impacted by all its pioneers and will still be impacted by the competitors still to come.
